Dr. Martha Agbeli is a nationally board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) who is actively practicing in geriatric psychiatry. Her practice focuses on reducing polypharmacy and decreasing the use of psychotropic medication particularly antipsychotics in older adults. She has 14 years within inpatient and outpatient settings including a locked geriatric psychiatric unit, dementia unit, psychiatric emergency room (pediatrics & adults), and partial hospital.
Dr. Agbeli received a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Walden University. She earned her MSN-PMNNP from Drexel University and a BSN with a minor in psychology from the University of Rhode Island. She is board-certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and maintains professional affiliation with the American Psychiatric Nurses Association.
She has an extensive teaching background in both PMHNP didactic and clinical courses at several Universities across the nation and serves as a preceptor for many PMHNP students in Massachusetts.
Dr. Agbeli’s experiences with geriatric patients have sparked a passion for scholarly inquiry to improve the delivery of nursing care in this population. Other research interests include providing mentorship for newly hired adjunct faculty in efforts to enhance best teaching practices and creating optimal learning experiences for online nursing learners.
