If you already have a bachelor’s degree in any field, the quickest way to become a registered nurse (RN) is through an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN). Wilkes offers an excellent online ABSN program.
Once you earn your ABSN, you will need to pass the NCLEX-RN exam and follow your state’s licensing requirements.
The American Association of nurse practitioners (AANP) defines NPs as advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) who obtain graduate education at the master's, post-master’s or doctoral level and obtain national board certification.
In other words, to become an NP you must complete a graduate level nursing degree (MSN or higher) and obtain board certification. Wilkes offers pathways to becoming an NP for nurses who hold an ADN, BSN, or MSN.
Nurse practitioners (NPs) have higher education and a larger scope of practice, which varies by state. For example, NPs can order tests, prescribe medication and diagnose patients. Registered nurses (RNs) cannot.
Registered nurses can enlarge their scope of practice through education at the master's, post-master’s or doctoral level and additional certifications.
